Pangalos: We too watched the U.S. ambassador in Athens
Tapping, bugs and why the Greek government stopped watching the Americans
Theodoros Pangalos revealed today in Vima FM that the Greek government was eavesdropping on the U.S. ambassador in Athens. He said that wiretapping took place during his stay at the Foreign Ministry and was target at the U.S. ambassador without specifying for how long.
He added that ‘we did not learn anything new, because we knew everything, but it was great fun to hear the U.S. Ambassador in Athens talking to the ambassador in Ankara and the State Department with inappropriate adult expressions.’
He also said that more than 20 years have passed and therefore ‘everything has been erased,’ and that interceptions stopped because ‘the Americans found out.’
