Armament programs: Kantas gave names in his additional testimony

Testifying before investigators Sp. Georgoulis and Chr. Markou the former deputy director of armament programs Antonis Kantas, who is in custody after 13.7 million dollars were found in two offshore companies under his same, gave names of senior military officers of the Ministry of Defense.

Accused of money laundering and corruption, the former deputy director of armament programs during the period 1996-2002, under Akis Tsochatzopoulos as Defense Minister and later Yiannos Papantoniou, according to reports did not bring any information to the interrogation that would prove the persons he named were actually bribed to promote specific armament programs.
 
However, as he reportedly said, they were key-players for the implementation of this commission, which none of the manufacturing companies could have ignored without facing the consequences.
 
Antonis Kantas argued that for the supply of self-propelled guns by Wegmann there were three key-services. The 4th Hellenic Army General Staff office, where George Karampelas was then in service, the third branch of the General Staff and the General Directorate of Armaments, where Kolliris, Androulakis, Leontaritis and Konstantopoulos were serving, and the deputy chief in charge.
 
Information indicates that Kantas referred to a meeting held in the office of temporary detainee P. Efstathiou on Plutarchou str. in Kolonaki during which, as Kantas allegedly testified, banker Fanis Lyginos entered the office and allegedly said: "I am dropping by the father next door." Kantas said that he asked him who this “father” is and Lyginos replied: "An old politician, a good friend, but greedy."
 
According to Kantas, Lyginos is the banker from Switzerland who opened the accounts that received the remittances from the kickbacks.
