The
government will announce the new leadership of the Privatization Fund
no later than Friday in order to "appease" the Troika auditors who on
that day will visit the prime minister and are concerned that the
privatization program has come to a standstill.
The technical teams that started working yesterday at the General Accounting office and are preparing the coming of Thomsen, Masuch and Morse, showed that they are especially concerned about the apparent failure in privatizations this year.
The auditors did not hide their annoyance at the pre-election "freezing" of the program and asked to learn more about the effects of Mitropoulos’ withdrawal from TAIPED.
However, the economic team is also concerned with the persistence of the Troika auditors to find out how we will meet the looming shortfall in revenue collection in 2012 from privatizations and taxes, as their interest may conceal greater pressure on measures of immediate performance.
The meetings for supplementing the cost cutting measures for 2013-2014 continued until Tuesday evening, although it appears that the target of saving 11.5 billion euros will be roughly covered with measures of questionable performance as well, some of which will not be easily accepted by the Troika.
