Two spectacular events will take place on Holy Tuesday in the sky: a total lunar eclipse, which will not be visible from our country, and a full moon also called “Paschal full moon” since this is the first full moon after the vernal equinox. The moon will get a striking deep red color during the eclipse , as it passes through Earth's shadow.

The total disappearance of the moon will be visible mainly from North and South America and the Pacific. This phenomenon will last from 9 to 12 am , local time, on Holy Tuesday.

Why do some people associate the phenomenon with the Second Coming

Social networking sites have been inundated with articles about the “end of the world” due to the first total lunar eclipse. A Texan pastor, known in US as a televangelist, comments on the four consecutive lunar eclipses which are caused when Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned and the sunlight refracted giving moon a bright red colour, like blood.

The pastor and author of the book “Four Blood Moons: Something is About to Change”, John Hagi, argues that the “Quartet” includes signs of the Second Coming: “It's a series of prophetic events that are mentioned in the Bible, but there is no reference on the exact sequence and chronological order. It mentions only that when we see these signs, such as the four blood moons, the end of the world is coming”.

But for many Christians too, the blood moon is considered to be a sign of Second Coming. The Old Testament says: “The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord”.

Regarding the  “Paschal full moon”,  the date of this particular full moon is traditionally used for determining the date of Easter , which is why Easter is a moveable feast . This year there is a common celebration of Easter by Orthodox and Catholic Christians on April 20.
