The  Athens Criminal Court of Appeal with its No 2288/2020 Decision ruled that the crime of fraud as a felony attributed to the defendants has not been established

The counsel for the former Hellenic Postbank (TT) president, Athanasios Varlamis, has asked to for the speeding up of the procedures for the extradition of Angelos Filippides to Greece.

Varlamis submitted to the Appeals Prosecutor the entire history of the case and the return ticket to Greece that was issued for his client before being arrested in Istanbul. He stated in writing, in order to inform the Turkish public prosecutor, that Filippides waives any legal right he has to speed up the relevant procedures.

The procedure for extraditing Filippides to Greece is already under way. He is currently held in the Turkish prison of Maltepe, while the Prosecution Appeals of Athens has sent to the Justice ministry the documents for the extradition of the accused. From there, the file will be forwarded to the Foreign Ministry to translate the data into Turkish and will be returned to the Ministry of Justice to be sent to the judicial authorities of Turkey to extradite Angelos Filippides to Greece.

Kontominas questioned today

Today Tuesday, the investigator is expected to receive a plea from the accused businessman Dimitris Kontominas, who has also been arrested and is hospitalized under guard with respiratory infection. Kontominas will plead with a written statement and denies the allegations.

Marios Varotsis was released Monday on bail. With the agreement of the investigator and prosecutor, the accused was released on a ban on leaving the country and 300,000 euro bail. The former TT member testifiedfor accusations of infidelity and complicity in money laundering.

Reportedly, Varotsis argued that loans granted by the TT in 2008 - 2009 can not be judged on today’s criteria as the market conditions then were very different from today, with the country's economy having collapsed.

Allegedly he also said that TT granted loans in compliance with all safeguards to entrepreneurs with guarantees and great financial standing.
