Measures for electricity and heating fuel for lower-income households
The Greek government is taking immediate measures for disadvantaged groups, alarmed by the criticism following the death of 13-year-old Sarah in Xirokrini, Thessaloniki, from the fumes of the improvised brazier, which she lighted up with her mother in an attempt to stay warm.

A similar tragedy almost happened in Kordelio today, forcing the government to take immediate social policy action in an effort to relieve the poorer strata of society. The Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister had a meeting earlier today at Maximos Mansion, in the presence of the Ministers of Environment and Development, Costis Hatzidakis and Yannis Maniatis, respectively.

Among other things discussed the provision of electricity to households where it has been interrupted and which are living below the poverty line.

According to government officials, the administration of PPC has been mandated to work directly with Municipalities throughout Greece, to allow for a quick response on outage phenomena of families that cannot afford the cost.

In this context, Minister Yannis Maniatis will hold a meeting Saturday with the participation of KEDE and the management of PPC.

The aim is to create communication channels of local communities with local PPC services and deal directly with such problems, where the specific individuals are not included in the population groups for which PPC does not already cut off electricity or do not have the relevant procedures to be included.

Already yesterday, PPC asked the social agencies to inform its local offices, if they notice cases of people who have severe welfare problems.

490,000 applications for heating allowance were approved

Meanwhile, State Revenue Secretary Haris Theocharis, assures that from the 560,000 applications for the heating allowance 490,000 have already been approved.

As he said, the process of submitting an application through Taxisnet is progressing well and will soon begin the payment of the second installment of the allowance to its beneficiaries.

It should be reminded that 22 million euros have been disbursed until today as an advance of the allowance, which were credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
