ND proceeded to a move with particular symbolism by announcing economist
Theodore Lambrakis, son of the late Grigoris Lambrakis who was murdered
in 1963 by the para state, in 8th place on the State ballot.
Although he has leftist roots, in the municipal elections of 2010 Lambrakis was a city councilor candidate in Halandri mayor George Kourassi’s combination, nominated by ND, while during the Mitsotakis administration he served as advisor to then Minister of State Mikis Theodorakis.
"I'm independent, never belonged to any political party, I am a free citizen. And I hate the 'racism' of typifications such as right-winger, communist or PASOK follower. And my father was not a communist. He was associated with the United Democratic Left. He was a free man, and a democratic one. There are good and bad communists, there are good and bad right-wingers. Everything has to do with the person, if they are correct, no matter which party they support", he said in October 2010 in an interview newspaper about his father in the "Vima" newspaper.
Information on his participation in the "blue" lists had been leaked since last summer and had lately intensified.
The 51 year-old economist, educated in England, lives with his family in Halandri. Information indicates that KKE and ND had attempted to include him in their lists in the past, but he had refused.
As to the "weight" of his surname, he had meaningfully said:

"So it would have been easy for me to be overwhelmed and find a political party, and use my name. It is not unusual. Nepotism is a Greek disease. Everyone told me "but you are Lambrakis, why not take advantage of it?" My surname was of no importance to me. I do not regret it. Had I used it, had I been involved with a political party, perhaps I would have been swayed into paths that did not express who I was."
