Minister Pamboukis resigns

Mr. Haris Pamboukis seems to be another victim of the government’s “experiments”. The once very close collaborator of Mr.Papandreou realized, better late rather than never, that it was a mistake to close down the Ministry of Shipping and to integrate it with the Ministry of Development, and he tried to fix it a few days ago when he proposed that it should be re-instated.

The PM rejected his proposal and that led to his immediate resignation. His office published the following announcement:

«In a crucial moment for the country, it is our obligation not to obey dogmatic and personal strategies that are against national goals. Today the main goal is development and growth, and shipping is the main tool for that. For two months I have tried to re-instate a nationally useful Ministry, but to no avail. My honest position on the necessity of the re-instatement of the Ministry was public and there have been many institutions and persons supporting this, apart from all those involved with shipping…”

The letter continues with his clarification on why he found it easy to decide to resign “My participation in politics was solely to help the country overcome its difficulties, even if I did not agree with all the decisions made. My decision to quit is proof of why I got involved with politics. I was never addicted to positions or thrones.»
