Specifically, in all middle schools and lyceums of the country, from the new academic year, there will be the option of a second language. Thee choice will be among French, German, Italian and Spanish.
According to the decision of the Deputy Minister, the criterion for the choice of second language is whether there is a position of such a teacher. In the case there isn’t, the decision on the second language taught will be decided by looking into what language the majority of students has chosen, which practically means that there will not be a choice for all schools since there isn’t enough staff.
So, in actual terms, students who would like to be taught German but can’t since there isn’t a teacher for German in their school, would have to either drop the module or change schools altogether.
Already our phones are ringing non stop from parents and teachers that are upset with the situation.
