Serious indictments for the murderers of Manolis

The two Afghans who were arrested on Thursday, accused of the brutal murder of 44yo Manolis Kantaris in the centre of Athens, are facing 3 felony charges by the Prosecutor.

At midday on Friday, the case file was sent to the Criminal Prosecution. The Prosecutor indicted the charges of murder with intent, joint murder, simple complicity in murder with intent by complicity, robbery which resulted in a person’s death by complicity, and the misdemeanors of illegal possession and use of firearms.

Along with a third person, a Pakistani national who is still at large, the two Afghans delivered several stabs to the unlucky 44yo at the junction of Ipirou and 3rd Septemvriou Str. in order to steal his camcorder.

Manolis Kantaris, a resident of the area, was on his way to get his car and take his wife to hospital to deliver their second child.

The two Afghans will face the magistrate on Saturday. On Friday afternoon they were taken to the Prosecutor to hear the charges against them.

It is very likely they will be granted a time limit for their pleas in order to obtain a translator, as the two defendants allegedly do not speak any language other than their mother tongue.
