New solutions for patients with grave illnesses

The Ministry of Health is introducing Oncological Committees in hospitals responsible for all cancer patients.

A new drastic therapeutic intervention for the health of Greek patients and their National Insurance Agencies is being introduced by the Ministry of Health, and the Minister is expected to give the go-ahead in the coming days. Doctors will be able to give out 18 oncological "treatment packs", something that they have been requesting for decades.

The "treatment packs", which most European countries have had for almost 50 years now, will include a protocol followed after a patient is diagnosed, which defines specific examinations, medication and dosages for patients.

This procedure will help patients and save time for doctors, labs and carers. Also this will decrease expenditure for all health insurance agencies.

In the same context, the new Oncological Committees in hospitals will deal with patients, which practically means that the future of a patient will not hinge upon one doctor's diagnosis, but upon that of a team of doctors such as general practitioners, surgeons etc.
