One person dead in Thessaloniki fire
The fire at 64 Kassandrou str in Thessaloniki started from a ground floor apartment and caused the death of a middle-aged man and substantial material damage.

floor apartment and caused the death of a middle-aged man and
substantial material damage.
The fire that started for reasons yet unknown and spread quickly, destroying the apartment completely plus one more, while damage wascaused to apartments on other floors as well.
As the coroner on duty, Manthos Tsougas, stated, the unlucky man met a tragic death next to the elevator door just a few meters from the exit of the building, from the fumes and the flames.
Officers from the F.D. with special ladders and other means evacuated 12 persons from the burning building.
Overall, 15 vehicles and 30 fire fighters took part in the operation that concluded a while ago and kept Kassandrou str closed for about 2,5 hours.
