Elliniko: 13-year-old boy dead and his 9-year-old sister seriously injured

The 9-year-old girl injured yesterday while playing with her brother in an amusement park is out of danger. The Chief Commander of the National Health Operations Center, Panos Efstathiou, talked on the morning show of Greek TV channel ANT1 about the health status of the little girl saying that “she is well” and her health status is “under control”. The girl suffers from pulmonary contusion, but she is able to communicate with the doctors and her family.
However, her 13-year-old brother was not lucky. He died from severe head injuries.

Three people were arrested and today is expected to be charged with negligent homicide and causing severe physical injuries. One is Italian, responsible for the amusement park, and two other employees from Bangladesh. The police still investigates to clarify the ownership of the amusement park. Therefore, the municipality was asked to give all the necessary information and according to sources, police has already contacted the manager of the company to report and testify.

All happened on Sunday noon at around 16:00. The children were inside a huge inflatable ball and were playing in a big plastic pool. The strong wind, however , lifted the ball with the two children inside it and moved it 30 meters away.
The ball had hit on railings, other attractions of the amusement park and on a wall until it was finally landed. As a result the two children were seriously injured and taken immediately to the hospital.
The 13-year-old boy was intubated by the rescue team and had suffered sever head injuries. According to the doctors of the hospital, the boy was unconscious and thus the immediate resuscitation efforts were started, but the boy did not make it. His sister was taken immediately in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital suffered from pulmonary contusion.
The amusement park is belonged to a Greek company based in Ioannina. The owner stated that he has the required permission. However, all attractions will be checked by the competent authority of the Region.
