Bild provokes again: Greeks have more money than Germans
The Greek crisis is the subject of an extensive cover story in the newspaper Bild, which with its familiar style is referring to the recent proposal by Bundesbank to a property levy for wealthy citizens of countries in crisis. The newspaper notes that according to the Bundesbank, "Greeks have to pay for their crisis themselves."

Then the newspaper notes that "for years we Germans have to pay for the bankrupt Greeks and this happens obviously because the Greeks can not help themselves. The truth seems to be different as the Greeks actually have much more money than us."

Bild cites an ECB study according to which the property of a German household amounts to 51,400 euros on average while the Greeks have 101,900 euros. "They almost have twice as much as we do."

The news story cites statements by the Bundesbank representative Michael Best who says that "in the event of a looming default, a lump sum property tax would be the lesser evil. The wealthy elite normally exercise political influence and is partly responsible for the condition of a country."
