Guarding 240 “red” targets because of Xiros
Hellenic Police is sweeping Athens and Thessaloniki and expects the terrorist’s team to make a mistake
The security forces are trying to create unbearable pressure around the support network of Christodoulos Xiros with continuous raids on homes of people associated with the antiauthoritarian space and the escapee’s family.
Their aim is to fall on someone who knows something about the disappearance of "Manolis" of 17 November and thus gain information while making Xiros’ support team lose its temper and make a mistake.
On Tuesday they searched 12 houses in Athens and Thessaloniki and arrested two people while the same scene will be set up today as investigations continue apace to create a peculiar psychological war on the other side. "This is a race in three levels. First we must find Christodoulos Xiros and his team as soon as possible. We must also guess which will be the likely target in a potential terrorist attack while we must increase the guard measures in approximately 240 “red” targets as shown by our analysts. We are at the highest level of preparedness in the last decade. About 1,500 policemen have as their top priority the safeguarding of specific targets to prevent a strike, and we have increased patrols of the DIAS group around the areas of possible targets," a Police officer says.
A rough choice of target
The Counterterrorism analysts believe that in general the selection, preparation and execution of the hit will all be made by the team that helped Christodoulos Xiros disappear and not by the terrorist himself. Indeed, this idea gathers many chances to be carried out soon so as to create the impression of the regeneration of urban guerrilla warfare under Xiros’ high supervision. This implies that probably the selection and preparation of an attack might be hurried and sloppy, which would make them particularly dangerous.
