The new detentions “write off” GD from the European elections

Another step towards the political "deactivation" of the Golden Dawn was  taken with yesterday's decision of the judicial authorities to imprison three more members of the neo-Nazi construct.

The decision taken by the appeals judges and the prosecutor to remand George Germenis, Panagiotis Iliopoulos and Stathis Boukouras, yielding the heavy charges of involvement in a criminal organization, shows that the judicial cordon around the Golden Dawn squeezes instead of relaxing as its executives hoped, who had become encouraged due to the decrease of their popularity downturn after the murder in Amfiali last September and the murderous attack against their followers in early November.

The latest developments with the new imprisonments confirm the estimates for the impossibility of a Golden Dawn participation in the upcoming European elections, at least with its current name and symbols, as it would be a unique paradox for the Supreme Court to allow to declare a ballot with the name of a criminal organization that already long before the completion of the ongoing criminal investigation, half of the members of its parliamentary group, 9 out of 18, are facing heavy indictment.

It should be reminded that Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos, Christos Papas and Yannis Lagos are already behind bars, while Elias Kasidiaris, Elias Panagiotaros and Nikos Michos are temporarily released on strict bail.

The weak participation in the gathering Saturday, when Germenis and Iliopoulos were presenting their pleas and the complete absence of GD supporters the next day when Boukouras was presenting his are interpreted as indicative of the weakening of Michaloliakos’ organization, despite the noise which was attempted to be created by members with attacks against journalists and the denial of spokesman Elias Kasidiaris to condemn the outrages whose existence he actually questioned even though they were captured by cameras.
