Kantas in prison - He gave names and addresses
The former Deputy Armaments Director admitted having 10 offshore companies through which he received at least 16 million dollars from bribes
Former Deputy Armaments Director of the Greek ministry of Defense Antonis Kantas was taken to prison after today's plea that will continue tomorrow. The decision for a pre-trial detention before completing his plea was taken due to the lapse of five days stipulated by law for the detention without the ruling of an investigator.
According to information, Kantas’ deposition is considered as very important by the relevant investigating authorities and seems to give a new twist to the investigation on bribes given to Greece for signing armament programs.
The defendant is alleged to have named specific people involved in signing armament programs for which black money was circulated. These persons were so far unknown to the Greek investigators while the programs that were signed amount to at least eight.
Kantas, who was Deputy Armaments Director under minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos and Yannos Papantoniou, allegedly has maped the route of black money revealing that he used more than 10 offshore companies which were created with the help of a lawyer, whom he also named. He reportedly gave the names of at least five representatives of firms managing millions from bribes.
It should be reminded that according to his counsels Kantas intends to return 16 million dollars to the Greek government, 14 of which the prosecuting authorities detected in a Singapore account.
