Tsipras: The President of the Republic is not an usher - Papoulias: My abilities are limited

Upon entering the meeting with President Karolos Papoulias, SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras said "we are not in good spirits after what has happened" and expressed his fear that "this is a hit on social cohesion, on our institutions and on the institution of the Presidency of the Republic."

He also said that thinking about the President of the Republic as an usher posting layoffs is a devaluation and a downgrade of the institution. He added that the last things left to defend in Greece are the institutions and democracy and as the Constitution provides, this should do be the first and foremost concern of the Greek citizens.

Tsipras did not fail to state that he visited the President not only under his institutional capacity, but also because he is a fighter with sensitivities.

Papoulias said there should be public television, that information cannot only come from private channels and reminded that his own possibilities are limited by the Constitution. "I cannot take back the Legislative Act," he said.

Lastly, Tsipras added that regardless of the Constitution “we have an obligation to open roads.”
