Up to 20% increase in electricity charges

According to information published by the Eleftheros Typos newspaper, the proposed increases will even exceed 20% in some cases, while the final surcharge will be around 10%.

 

According to the same sources, the government has decided to abolish the regulated electricity prices for all categories, except for vulnerable groups of consumers, by June 2013. Thus, by the second half of 2013, low voltage bills should reflect the full cost of electricity production, which will also lead to further increases.

 

PPC proceeds to 30,000 power outages per month due to non-payment

 

About 30,000 outages are carried out each month due to non-payment, as shown in a letter by the PPC president Arthuros Zervos, forwarded to parliament as an answer to the question raised by DIMAR MP Vassilis Oikonomou on PPC’s power shutdowns in Thriasio and in homes of socially vulnerable groups.

 

Zervos said that "in the area of Eleusis, which includes Thriassio as well, we perform no more than 280 power shutdowns per month when there are about 30,000 nationwide, all due to non-payments."

 

He added, however, that despite the current economic downturn, an overwhelming majority of PPC customers are consistent with their obligations. Any problems, he says, "come from the minority of our customers, who are inconsistent with their obligations and require distinct treatment against the remaining customers, repeatedly asking for long-term arrangements, which generally they do not keep."
