Crucial meeting for the PASOK PG

Evangelos Venizelos will try to convince his MPs that there is no other way than an affirmative vote, provided that negotiations for improvements will continue until the last minute to ensure the sustainability of the debt and that these measures will be the last. Especially for privatizations, PASOK's proposal of compromise is that the parliament could decide only about businesses of strategic nature.

 

The main course is the agreement with the Troika. In this matter Venizelos has a strong team of members that oppose it. Kostas Skandalidis does not hide that he considers voting against the measures and PASOK’s exit from the government to be the only way. Statements in the direction of "no" have also been made by other members such as Theodoros Parastatidis, Mimis Androulakis and Michalis Kassis. Yannis Koutsoukos is puzzled too, while it is unknown what Drivelegkas, Moraitis Tzakri, Bolaris and Kegkeroglou will do. The scene gets even more complicated due to yesterday's statements by Loverdos and Chrysochoidis, who heralded they will each make their own political movement.

 

The line of defense by Ippokratous extends on two levels. The first concerns the country. Venizelos will tell his MPs that PASOK will have to maintain a responsible stance to ensure the funding of the country even at a political cost. The second has to do with the political system. The PASOK president will seek unity, because only then will the party be able to regain its strength. He will leave hints for those who want PASOK to become a component of SYRIZA to become ministers once again or the tail of the New Democracy for the same reason. "The president's strategy mistakes are to blame for the situation in PASOK", the dissidents respond.
