Public projects to individuals under subcontract
"The chartered auditors will undertake the work of the tax authority, the civil engineers urban planning work and private garages the work of KTEO....
"Every year some 30,000 public employees retire. With the method of hiring one person for every 10 retirements, we will hire 3,000 people per year, so their number will be reduced by 27,000 per year. We will not need any layoffs. And as we will close departments and agencies and pass their work on to private companies, staff needs of the public sector will be reduced. The needs generated by the retirements will be covered by transfers of staff from the defunct services."
Renting out hospitals on the islands
The government intends to build upon "smart" ideas like that of Professor of Medicine Yannis Tountas, who as chairman of the Department of Studies in the School of Medicine has a study on the use of slow parts of the ESY hospitals. The government intends to rent out the departments of hospitals that do not work or are barely functional to foreign pension funds so they could send their insured here. Such hospitals that are not on full time operation are on many islands such as Syros, Kos and Rhodes. This move is expected to have multiple positive effects on tourism and on attracting money for a purchase of a holiday home in Greece by foreign retirees.
