UPD:
“Find a way to form a government and I will support you”, stated Democratic Left president Fotis Kouvelis to Alexis Tsipras, throwing the ball in the latter’s court concerning the responsibility of governing the country.
Specifically, Mr. Kouvelis pointed out that he who has the exploratory mandate is not him but Mr. Tsipras, and therefore invited him to “handle it in the name of society which seeks a solution… you have the ability, if you want to, to proceed with a Leftist government and with greater parliamentary legitimacy”.
The Democratic Left President has indicated that he will work in order to govern the country, thus clarifying that he is not in favour of new elections.
For this reason, during his meeting with Mr. Tsipras, Mr. Kouvelis reiterated his proposal “to form a government supported by broader popular and parliamentary legitimacy and integrating the clear message of elections that society and the country cannot march to the tune of the policy which was condemned by the people”.
Furthermore, Mr. Kouvelis set as “party red lines” the transition out of the memorandum and keeping the country in the Eurozone, utilizing the favorable European context which is being shaped, points which seem to be quite far from SYRIZA’s proposal for “an abolition of the Memorandum and termination of the loan agreement”.
