Giorgos gave no name to ministers
PM George Papandreou's cards were kept close to his chest concerning the name of his successor. He told cabinet members that anyone could have imagined anyone, but a commonly good solution must be found, which will not create problems for associates.

As regards the course of negotiations, he simply noted that we are doing well. In this context, he asked his ministers to authorize him to complete said negotiations by making available their resignations, without a formal submission, in order to avoid a governmental vacuum.

Giorgos Papandroeu may have been moderate, but his colleagues took it a step further. “When will this ordeal end for the party and the country?”, he was asked by a top minister, and received an answer of “We are almost ready”.

The PM also stated that each of the two parties has its own “red lines” and informed ministers that he is in ongoing contacts with Mr. Antonis Samaras.

In addition, Mr. Papandreou spoke of the role of unregulated markets and added that PASOK is a force of stability and accountability.
