UPD:
A cap in the price of fuel across the country was imposed by the Government due to the strike of customs employees.
The highest price for unleaded and Super petrol, as well as diesel fuel, will come into effect from 15/10/2011 at 00.01.
The cap will vary from region to region and will be formed based on the average price per region on Thursday, October 14th. It will remain in effect for as long as necessary for the full normalization of the market.
In his statements, Deputy Minister of Development, Competitiveness and Shipping,\ Socratis Xinidis noted that some stations had unjustified price increases and the government’s decision is to prevent such phenomena in the country.
He added that the ministry will define any further course of action according to the strike at customs offices. If consumers find higher prices than the price cap, they can call the consumer line (1520) or send a fax to the Price Monitoring Directorate of the General Secretariat of Commerce on 210-3815317.
It is surprising, however, that the fuel cap exempts heating oil, the distribution of which begins on Saturday, October 15th. The price of heating oil is expected to stand at 0.85 euros/liter.
