A counterfeit banknote laboratory was found in Galatsi on Friday, after the arrest of two 27-year-old foreigners from Rwanda and Cameroon respectively.

A counterfeit banknote laboratory was found in Galatsi on Friday, after the arrest of two 27-year-old foreigners from Rwanda and Cameroon respectively.

The two foreigners were arrested by Athens police. They were found with one fake 50-euro note each in their possession.

Subsequently, they led police to their apartment in Galatsi, which they had turned into a counterfeiting workshop.

Inside the apartment, police found and seized counterfeit notes of 20,50,100,200 and 500 euros, of a total value of 1.155.190 euro, as well as counterfeit dollars in notes of 50 and 100, amounting to $40.000.

Also found and seized were 11 fully equipped printers, many pieces of isometric paper cut to banknote size, eight vials of aqueous solutions and powder used for processing banknotes, eight blades and three mobile phones.

Those arrested will be brought to the prosecutor, accused of “serial abetting and counterfeiting”.
