Environment minister to ask for a further 700 million euros!

It is expected that by the end of the year there will be a state income of 700 million euros from the funds receiving the fines paid by all the owners of illegally built properties.

According to what the environment minister, George Papaconstantinou announced on Friday, an amendment to the relevant law will include the around one million illegally built properties which might even be legalized except for those in forests or archeological sites.

What is needed, though, is for the owners to pay the sum required by the state or the fine they got.

This is considered to be a financial reconciliation which is fully accepted by the Hellenic Council of State.

The newly appointed minister argues that the new bill will make things easier for everyone, saying that this way, an illegally built property owner will be able to transfer the ownership rights to others.

Still, however, there are many clarifications to be made and the final draft of the amendment is anticipated next week.
