The return of leprosy!

Hansen's disease, which is the medical term for leprosy after the Norwegian scientist who isolated the virus, has been revived nowadays through the TV series “The Island”.

Regarding the off-screen existence of the disease though, recent data shows that it is alive and well!

As revealed by protothema.gr, four cases of leprosy have mobilized the sanitary authorities of the country. Given that the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (KE.EL.P.NO.), the relevant entity in our country, had been recording one case every 5 years, these four cases have alerted the authorities.

Upon confirmation of the cases of the contagious and infectious disease, KE.EL.P.NO. experts immediately informed the family’s immediate environment of relatives and friends, as well as teachers from the children’s school. In fact, there will be a special examination of the rest of the students, so that other possible cases could be identified early on.
