"Dismantle security forces and establish them anew"!

At noon on Friday, Minister of Citizen Protection Christos Papoutsis met with all the heads of security forces in the aftermath of the bloody events of recent days.

Mr. Papoutsis stressed that he is not willing to concede to anyone, while he implicitly blamed police for the injured citizens.

Referring in particular to the services and strike forces of the Hellenic Police, such as riot police but also DELTA and DI.AS. forces, he spoke about cases of arbitrariness, lack of discipline and abuse of power, saying it is better to dissolve them and structure them anew.

The Minister characteristically stated:

“A security force, even if it appears strong, popular and effective, is better off dismantled and set up anew, rather than operating based on a peculiar system of tolerance which supports individual behaviors of disobedience, lack of discipline and abuse of power, while on the other hand it allows for a unique solidarity between unlawful perpetrators”.

When asked about the pogroms against foreigners, especially since of the 47 arrests made 42 were Greeks and only 1 was an immigrant, the minister just described the news as “sensational”.
