Two important announcements about initiatives by the Ministry of Internal Affairs were made today straight from the horse’s mouth: the Minister himself. In his meeting with the unions, he opened the agenda for the modernization of the public sector.
The changes that are planned are:
The hours of work go from 37,5 to 40 per week.
The opening hours extend until the afternoon for many services that are busy.
The Minister clarified there will be no gap between opening hours. The measure will be implemented in October in order for all employees to arrange their lives accordingly.
Mr.Ragousis stated that the public servants need to comprehend that it is important they help towards a more contemporary public sector. These measures have nothing to do with the IMF, but reflect a greater need for a healthier public service.
He also informed the unions that the issue of a single unified system of salaries is the only fair response to some grave injustices that are being perpetrated at the moment.
