In a decision made on Wednesday, the Thrace court passed a guilty
verdict for priests Efrem and Arsenios, who were involved in the
Vatopaidi
scandal. The former president of the one-member court, Maria Psalti, was
also found guilty.
The three defendants were sentenced to fifteen months' imprisonment - which subsequently became ten months - with the possibility of parole.
According to the case, the former president of the court in Rodopi was stalling for months to give out a ruling on the case of the land claims of the Agion Oros monastery. Fathers Arsenios and Efraim were accused of obstructing the lawful procedures of the court by making calls to try to change their sentence. All defendants will be seeking a second trial.
