Last issue today for «Vima»

ESIEA calls for a full Mass Media strike, against the shutdown of the «Vima» daily newspaper. The Governing Board met after the announcement of this decision and declared a 24-hour national strike for Tuesday, November 30th.

The intra-corporate board convenes especially today, while a meeting is also expected at DOL, with employees discussing the management’s position to reduce wages by approximately 10% in the entire corporation.

The suspension of the daily edition was officially announced to the employees on Thursday night, by the director Pantelis Kapsis.   

Today is the last day for the daily printed edition, and there is a commentary about the newspaper switching to an electronic edition due the requirements of our era, which says: «Vima accepts the decision of its readers, who prefer on-line information».

In the employee briefing, Pantelis Kapsis did not deny that the corporation will be forced to make redundancies, avoiding mention of specific number. But in his effort to reassure employees, he said that he submitted a proposal to the organization's management to cut down the wages to avoid layoffs. Specifically, he suggested a 10% decrease for wages between 1000 and 3000 euro and 15% for wages from 3000 and above.

It should be noted that his proposal is for all DOL employees, something that is expected to bring reactions among colleagues at «Nea» newspaper. Finally, he mentioned that some employees will be absorbed by the Sunday edition, which will continue its circulation, while others will be moved to the online edition.
