Van Rompuy's approval for Papakostantinou's efforts!

With Van Rompuy’s praise under his sleeve Minister of Finance Mr. Papakostantinou informed the PASOK Finance Committee after the Ministers Meeting late Thursday afternoon.

The praising comments of the EU’s president Herman van Rompuy in a Flemish magazine were the reason why Mr. Papakostantinou can call this a good day.

The Minister gave a full report on the progress the government is making and made a new announcement regarding the Public Fund for Loans & Collaterals. The PFLC will continue to serve the public in terms of collaterals but there is going to be a new affiliated credit institution that will deal with all banking issues. For a more effective redistribution of PFLC, a special study will be undertaken.

Earlier, Mr. Van  Rompuy characterized the Greek government’s progress as “an unbelievable success”, during an interview for a Flemish magazine titled “The euro worked as a sleeping pill”, praising the Greek government for the way they reacted during the crisis that started last spring. He recounts the Greek crisis so far, highlighting that the EU “needs to swim against the current” in order to create the circumstances for a steady economic growth that will “create a viable European model and preserve Europe’s leading position at a global level”.
