South Korean Prime Minister resigns

He assumes responsibility for April 16th's tragedy

South Korean Prime Minister resigns
South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won has resigned on Sunday, assuming the government responsibility for the tragedy of April 16th with the sinking of a ship which resulting the loss of hundreds of passengers' lives, most of which were children.

"I did not want to resign earlier, since thte management of the situation was the first priority for me, and I t hought it was on me to provide assistance. But I decided to resign now to no longer encumber the government", he said in a brief but highly emotionally charged statement.

Tsung was booed for his government actions and someone threw a water bottle against him, when he visited the parents of the victims, a day after the disaster.

More than 300 people, most of which young students, lost their lives or are missing after the sinking of the passenger ship. The official death toll so far confirmed is 187.
