A definitive end: No fake pensions were recorded in April

Not a single case of a fake allowance or pension was recorded by "Ilios" system of the Ministry of Labour, which records on a monthly basis pensions and welfare benefits.
The same report shows that the pension expenditure remained within the targets in the first four months of the year.
"Today, the insurance system is fully shielded against irregularities that have cost over 5 billion euros in the last 15 years. The cases of fake pensions that come to light concern older irregularities ... and are being brought to justice", said Labour Minister Yiannis Vroutsis.
"The first step was the registration of pensioners in the private and public sector, which began in late 2012 and was completed in April 2013 and revealed the existence of more than 30,000 illegal pensions, which are no longer paid", added Mr. Vroutsis.

According to data of "Ilios" system for payments of pensions and welfare benefits in April 2014:

The number of pensioners stands at 2,645,672
The total number of pensions paid amounts to 4,452,117
Of these 10,492 are paid to foreign nationals.
The total monthly expenditure for pensions in April amounted to EUR 2,306,220,279.39.
The corresponding expenditure for the first quarter of 2014 amounts to EUR 9,195,497,191.49

The average monthly income from retirement pensions amounts to EUR 943.19.

Regarding welfare benefits :

The total number of beneficiaries stands at 161,644
The total number of allowances paid amounts to EUR 170,293.
The total monthly expenditure for benefits in April amounts to EUR 54,296,330
The corresponding expenditure for the first quarter of 2014 amounts to EUR 219,140,967.
