A tribute to Spanish cinema at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation
A tribute to Spanish cinema begins on Wednesday, April 23 with three exceptional films from Greece's neighboring country
The Cinema Club of the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Moschato has organized a tribute to Spanish cinema in collaboration with Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. Three films will be screened, each with a different theme.
Agusti de Villaronga's “Pa negre” (Black Bread), 2010 deals with the difficult subject of the Spanish Civil War. The film has received nine Goya awards and 15 Gaudí awards in 2011,and the Silver Shell for Best Actress at the San Sebastian Festival in 2010.
Mario Camus's “La colmena” (The Hive), 1982 is based on the novel by Camilo Jose Cela (Nobel Prize for Literature 1989). The story unfolds in post-war Madrid where the residents are experiencing the dramatic consequences of the war. The film won the Golden Bear for best film at the Berlinale festival in 1983.
Finally, Carlos Saura's “Mamá cumple cien años” (Mama turns 100), 1979, records the indidents that take place between the members of a family that gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of the grandmother of the family. The film was nominated for for best foreign film at the 1979 Oscars.
