It will take months to extradite Griveas and Vatsika to Greece
They will take advantage of every judicial "weapon" they are given by the Anglo-Saxon law
Kyriakos Griveas and Anastasia Vatsika , who are two of the main defendants in the case of bad loans from the Hellenic Postbank (TT) in the tenure of the also accused Angelos Filippidis, seem to be trying to stall by taking advantage of the Anglo-Saxon law that provides dozens of safeguards that if an extradition is decided it would have to take place under conditions of absolute legitimacy.
According to the Anglo-Saxon law, the two defendants are entitled to appeal any decision of the British court, which will give the "green light" for their extradition to Greece, thus managing to save time and avoid their hand over to the Greek judicial authorities.
“The process itself is time consuming and yesterday was just the first step,” judicial sources explain in protothema.gr, hinting it will take some time until the Greek authorities come face to face with the two defendants.
Anti-corruption prosecutor Eleni Raikou has issued a criminal prosecution against Kyriakos Grivas and his wife Anastasia Vatsika for money laundering. According to the findings of the Assistant Prosecutor against corruption Popi Papandreou, the pair was given loans of more than 17 million euros from the TT but the bank did not previously ensure its interests and property.
The loan was given while the company of the pair was already buried in debts. "Therefore, the damage caused to the property of the bank from this certain financing was estimated at 100% of the claim, that is 17,641,000 euros," exactly the amount of loans. In other words, TT did not get back even one euro from the loan.
The two defendants for whom the Greek judicial authorities had issued an international arrest warrant appeared before a local court in London, which released them on bail of 50,000 pounds, withholding theirs and their children’s passports, requiring them to appear three times a week at a police station and have their phones open all day so they can be located immediately by the authorities.
