WHO: Greeks inject themselves with AIDS to get the benefit
A large percentage of Greeks seem to have injected themselves deliberately with the HIV virus in order to claim the benefit of 700 euros per month, according to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), Al Jazeera English broadcasts.

The report says that nearly half of new HIV infections in Greece are caused by the people themselves as the Greeks are being tested by the deep economic crisis. ‘The rates of HIV and heroin use have increased significantly, with about half of all new HIV infections being self-inflicted.’

WHO also expresses its concerns about the suicide rate in Greece that has skyrocketed while the access to Health services has declined and stresses the need to find an immediate solution. ‘These negative trends in Greece are a warning to other countries in considerable fiscal austerity, like Spain, Ireland and Italy.’

Homicides and thefts have doubled, while prostitution has increased due to the crisis, WHO adds.
