Turkish police thrashed protesters outside Erdogan's office - new gathering at Taksim Square

Thousands of protesters who set off from Taksim Square were found outside the office of the Turkish Prime Minister in Besiktas in Istanbul demanding the resignation of the Erdogan government.

Thousands of protesters who set off from Taksim Square were found outside the office of the Turkish Prime Minister in Besiktas in Istanbul demanding the resignation of the Erdogan government.

Strong police forces have broken up the protest by throwing chemicals. At least two platoons of police suppressed the protest, surprising the assembled people who moved back to Taksim Square about 500 meters away from Besiktas. Police remained outside the office of the Turkish prime minister and strengthened their security measures.

The thousands of protesters in Taksim Square are increasing while shouting slogans and protesting against the new fierce incidents last night.

Meanwhile, amid unrest in his country Erdogan traveled to Morocco and said that the situation in Turkey "is calm" despite the fourth day of violent protests that demand his resignation. "On my return from this visit all problems will be solved," Erdogan added at a press conference from Rabat.

The calmness that prevailed in the morning did not last long and by noon the situation in Ankara was once again explosive.

The Dogan news agency news reported that incidents occurred in Istanbul too, and the Medical Association of Turkey has officially announced the first dead of the demonstrations.

It is the 20 year old Mehmet Ayvalitas, member of a socialist organization in Turkey, who lost his life yesterday when he was run over by a taxi during a demonstration in Ankara. The Medical Association blamed the Turkish government for his death, stressing that political power “attempts to prevent peaceful protesters violently, which it calls as looters while making civil war appeals by statements such as, it is with difficulty that we keep 50% of the people in their homes."
