After the happy ending that in the troika negotiations, Finance minister Yannis Stournaras proceeded to a legislative addition to lighten households at risk of poverty from the Extra Special Property Tax (EETAA).
According to the provision "under a Finance ministry decision, main and self-occupied properties and self-owned houses that belong mainly or in part to a person who is in poverty or at risk of poverty, certain criteria will be specified and the relevant bodies will determine EETAA payment in installments or reduction or complete exemption from the obligation to pay, so that the liable persons will be able to meet the payment, without endangering the welfare of themselves or the persons living with them and burden them tax wise."
Hike will be paid by those who receive electricity until the end of 2013
The ministry of Finance has set a new trap to real estate owners suddenly last night, by changing the EETAA implementation conditions aiming to catch closed properties that will be electrified over the coming months.
In the original provision in the multi-bill, properties that will not be electrified on May 1, 2013, will not pay the EETAA. But this may open the "appetite" of many to cut the power until the day after tomorrow so that PPC would not have been able to put them in the program.
With an amendment filed at the last time by Finance minister Yannis Stournaras the EETAA will be imposed to properties that will be electrified until December 31, 2013.
This means that if someone were to cut the power or if an apartment is closed on May 1st but receives electricity in the following months, they would still have to pay the hike.
