Tsipras: Next year SYRIZA will be government

"Next year, in the fiftieth anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, Greece will get rid of troika. The Greek people and SYRIZA will come to power. This is a promise. It is our small contribution to the celebration of a historic event for Europe," Alexis Tsipras said from Lisbon.

Reflecting on the fact that "in the late 70's, Portugal, Greece and Spain had been admired as exemplary cases of the transition from dictatorship to democracy," the SYRIZA president said that "soon our countries will once again become examples of the transition from austerity to democracy."

Tsipras spoke of "the dictatorship of our time" that is not of national and political nature but a "European and economic one, enforced by the powerful markets." He added that "we all know now that our strength is in our unity. It is the only effective response to Merkel’s insistence on the policy of divide and rule."


He concluded: "You can now prepare the ground for a new Mediterranean Spring. A progressive change in any of the three countries will stimulate change in the same direction in the other two. Three great victories in the South would change the course of Europe. We can do it, we will do it."
