Attack on ND offices

The Kalashnikov assault at the New Democracy offices at Leoforos Syggrou 340, with a bullet reaching the office of the prime minister, has caused alarm in the Greek police and anti-terrorism unit.

At 3 in the morning gunfire was heard near the ND offices and the police rushed to the site to see what had happened.

Based on initial information, the perpetrators were riding in a car which stopped 100 meters from the ND offices on Lambrou Katsoni. They got out and started shooting at the ND building, where Antonis Samaras’ office faces the sea.

As ND has stated, a bullet was found at the PM’s office, which had broken the window, hit the ceiling, then the wall and ended up on the floor.

The police officers who went there found:

-       one bullet, which pierced the glass windows of the third floor and ended up at the office of ND president Antonis Samaras

-       one bullet that was found on the roof of the building

-       nine Kalashnikov cartridges in a side street of Syggrou Avenue, at number 348

The evidence was collected by forensic specialists and transferred to laboratories for ballistic and other tests.

It is likely that the attack was carried out with two and not one Kalashnikov, while police are investigating whether these weapons have been used in other attacks. So far they speak of a strike as a symbolic demonstration of power on the part of the attackers and consider that the bullet found at the PM’s office was shot there coincidentally. Only security employees were inside the building at the time of the attack.

Antonis Samaras was briefed on the attack, while a meeting was held at the offices of the party, which was attended by government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou, ND secretary M. Kefaloyiannis and director of the ND president's Press Office K. Bouras.
