The protests of workers in the municipalities of Greece are coming to a head today, Monday, with occupations in kindergartens, citizen service centers and town halls, as it is the deadline for sending the lists with the names of those who are to be suspended by the Administrative Reform ministry.

The workers in the Municipalities have been occupying a town hall building on Liosion Str. in Athens
since this morning. The staff office of the building has been occupied from since day the issue of suspensions was initially raised. At 11:30 they will march to the old town hall in Athens, where they have asked to meet with Mayor of Athens Yorgos Kaminis.

Their goal is to block the regulation for redundancies, transfers or layoffs of public employees from this year until 2016. Problems are also occuring in the collection of waste in hospitals and public markets. Liosion street is shut off for the time being. Both the ministries of Rural Development and Health have been occupied since earlier this morning.

It is worth noting that almost all municipalities in the country have decided not to send the lists of employee records.

As defined in the relevant circular sent to the municipalities after the enactment of the law, today is the deadline to send the declaratory acts for eliminating specific positions, individual administrative acts for employees who are suspended and acts that automatically put disloyal employees on suspension.

The aim of the POE- OTA since the weekend had been to block the town halls and relevant departments. This objective was largely achieved, since by decisions of regional associations of municipalities and municipal authorities, several individual municipalities are already occupied.

The Attica OTA union has put out a relevant appeal to employees of municipalities and regions, calling for a 24-hour strike today. It also calls for a rally in front of the Interior Ministry on Klafthmonos Square at 11 am. For tomorrow they have announced work stoppages from 11 am to 3 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm.
