"We should form an alliance for the good of society"

An invitation for cooperation to the Communist Party and the broader left forces was sent by the head of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Team, Alexis Tsipras.

He directly posed the dilemma: “vote of confidence towards the partners of the memorandum or permanent exemption from the memoranda and an alternative strategy to tackle the crisis”.

Speaking in the Free Sunday newspaper, Mr. Tsipras explains that a new coalition of leftist power is needed, with forces that are separated form PASOK, forces from the ecologist party and the support of the great social majority.

Specifically, with regard to the Communist Party’s stance and especially its standing position of “decoupling” from the EU, Mr. Tsipras states that even though this stance does not find him in agreement, he underlines that "the difference of opinion is known. The question is what stops us from allying and defending the dignity of society and the people”.

He adds that the important thing at this stage is “the struggle to change correlations in a battered Europe” and the concurrence of the Greeks with people who are natural allies: Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese workers but also the French and Germans”.

“There is no point in proceeding with isolationism”, he states.

At the same time, he urges people to heed the fact that PASOK and ND have now confessed that they will take new measures in June.

“They will cut pensions even further, reduce salaries, throw 150000 people on the street, 15 billion's worth of measures, and give 50 billion to banks, of which according to the IMF only 16 will be returned. I ask you this: Who will pay the rest of it? There is no hidden agenda, there is an obvious one and no one has an alibi for their vote in the upcoming elections. Their common program is the Memorandum which details measures of 15 billions’ worth”.

Finally, as concerns immigration Mr. Tsipras clarifies that Greece should cease being a huge detention camp for immigrants who cannot move to the rest of Europe, which does not mean that  we should not be responsible towards the problem.
