Europe 1 that he is not opposed to losing one’s national sovereignty,
has caused an uproar.
When asked about whether a European presence in Greece is a loss of sovereignty, the deputy PM said he understands the reaction of the Greeks, but stressed that he has always been a “federalist European”.
“It is a big problem for many of my constituents, perhaps the majority, I understand their point of view. But I am in favor of having countries lose their sovereignty. I always have been”, stated Mr. Pangalos.
“I’ve always said I was European, and even in favor of federalism”, he emphasized and said: “Yes, we can see this with national criteria. If the EC representative were Greek, would it be any different? I would say no. If, of course, he did his job well”.
