Store blown up in Glyfada

One of the main streets of Glyfada is now looking like a bombed landscape after the powerful explosion in a shop. At 4 o'clock in the morning strangers placed an improvised explosive device in the Celestino clothing store on 24 Metaxa str. 

The explosion caused severe damage to 30 shops and apartments, even up to the third floor and within almost 100 meters, and of course destroyed the shop where it had been placed. It opened a crater 30 cm deep at its entrance and we avoided casualties or injuries only because of the late hour and the lack of passersby. 

For precautionary reasons police have blocked Metaxa str, from Gr. Labraki to Zisimopoulou str, while the tram stations at that specific area are not operational. 

According to initial estimates of police bomb experts who are searching the area for the collection of evidence, the perpetrators may have used even up to 10 pounds of explosive material. 

The motives for the bombing remain unclear, but police are mainly investigating the possibility of an extortion circuit.
