The meetings between the envoys of IMF, ECB and the European Commission with relevant ministers and finance minister Evangelos Venizelos concluded with a preliminary agreement on the burning issue of the budget.
The critical issue of redundancies, and the preliminary budget draft that will be introduced on Monday for a parliament vote, were both discussed in the final meetings.
In any event, the final decisions on both matters will be made in the cabinet meeting on Sunday afternoon.
Regarding the budget draft, it seems they reached an initial agreement on the basic tables from which the closure of the fiscal deficit for ’11, and the aim to reduce the budget deficit in ’12 and create a primary surplus, will emerge.
In the meeting with Reppas earlier, they decided that by the end of ’11, 30.000 employees in the public sector will be forced to leave their jobs. Including those who will fulfill the pension criteria in a few years and those in services that will be eliminated. Reportedly, the Troika was shown to be firm in its demand for redundancies that will certainly include reservists.
The Troika audits in Greece concluded with these meetings and barring the unexpected, the final report will open the way for the release of the 6th tranche of 8 billion euros after the approval of the emergency Eurogroup meeting on October 3.
