Police are waiting for the results of ballistics, the calls to and from
specific phones, and the check on the many findings from the 2
apartments, in order to move on with the investigation. «We feel we’re
done with the Conspiracy of the Cores of Fire… Now we are looking for ties to other groups of urban guerilla warfare…», said a counterterrorism officer emphatically.
Information indicates that police analysts are looking for the thread that will lead them to the Sect of Revolutionaries. This is the aim of the counterterrorism unit after the arrest of the 6 youths that allegedly belong to the Cores. And the fact that Christos Tsakalos, Giorgos Nikolopoulos, Damiano Bolano (3 top members) and many people who seem connected with the Sect are among them, makes police officers particularly optimistic.
«We are trying to decode the movements and the plans of the arrestees. Our aim is to find their contacts and what they were preparing. The notes we found in the hideout at Nea Ionia in Volos, lead us to believe they were planning a bank robbery in the town», says a source from the Citizen Protection ministry.
The arrested individuals
The 6 arrestees (five males and one female), remain tight-lipped. They refuse to give fingerprints for identification and so the police are focusing their efforts on the two hideouts in Nea Ionia (Volos) and Holargos.
Well-informed sources in Volos say that the house was rented a year and a half ago, while that in Holargos was rented last August. The apprehended individuals used to hang out in these houses, and would stash a large part of their arsenal there, too. Police hope the findings will open new ways that will lead to the elimination of the Sect of Revolutionaries. However, the fact that the officers did not find the explosives used by the organization for its deadly attacks leads them to believe there is another hideout yet to be discovered.
