After 3 days of suffering for the passengers, the means of public transport will operate normally today, Thursday, since the 24hr strike of the electric rail has been suspended.

According to the program announced by the unions and if there is no change, the next protest will be on Friday, with ETHEL buses stopping from 11am to 3:30pm, trolleys 11am-3pm and the electric rail 12pm-4pm.

Meanwhile, the government is planning to take strict measures to tackle the phenomenon of not paying tickets, which on some means, such as buses, reaches 40%.

Infrastructure minister Dimitris Reppas announced today the legislative initiative for the implementation of penalties to those who refuse to pay toll fares or purchase tickets, describing the behavior of the deadheads as an “anti-social concept”.

Given this chance, the minister hinted that through negotiation he will seek the decrease of toll fares for the parts that are under construction, clarifying however that it is unthinkable not to pay the fare for highway usage with most sections completed.
