New strike for blue buses on Monday
The first week of the public dialogue between the ministry of Transport and representatives of the workers in Public Transport
UPD:
The first week of the public dialogue between the ministry of Transport and representatives of the workers in Public Transport, about the new bill for the reconstruction of the sector, passed in a generally good climate without tension, contingencies and major disputes.
Despite the fact that the meetings took place amidst demonstrations, the talks were constructive, as it seems from the statements of ministry and worker representatives. The latter, though, are still putting forward some issues such as transfers, decrease of income and the elimination of collective contracts.
On its part, the ministry is reiterating that the State cannot afford to support the non-profitable DEKO any longer, stressing that this process is a chance to clean up urban transport and secure its public character and the no lay-offs policy. At the same time, however, the ministry warns that privatization, which means hundreds of lay-offs, is the last resort.
The first round was completed today, with the meeting of general secretary of Transport Haris Tsiokas with the association of ETHEL drivers, who announced that on Monday they will have a new stoppage of work from 11am to 4pm in order to take part in their general assembly, where they will determine their further stance.
The new cycle of meetings between Tsiokas and representatives from the metro, tram and ILPAP is expected to start on Monday. Union members of ISAP are also expected to visit the ministry to submit their own proposals.
