The schedule of protest action in detail

The Metro and electric rail are coordinating their actions on Wednesday, going on work stoppages from the start of the shift until 8 am and from 9pm until the end of the shift.

More specifically, on Wednesday January 12, workers in electric rail and the metro will work normally from 8am to 9pm. Their colleagues on buses will stop working  from 11am to 3:30pm and on trolleys from 11 to 3pm.

24hr strike on trolleys and buses on Thursday

On Thursday, both buses and trolleys will remain docked, as workers have announced a 24hr strike, while the electric rail will stop from 12pm to 4pm.

These actions, according to what the unions are leaking, will continue next week, while the administrations are expected to reach the Supreme Court, asking that they be judged illegal and improper.

Petalotis: “Worker requisitioning is an easy solution, but we’re not considering it”

“Worker requisitioning is a solution that could be easy, but we’re not considering it” said the government spokesman when asked if the government is thinking about this solution for the strikes in transportation.

He also stressed that they are trying to use deliberation and dialogue with all concerned parties, especially workers, and reach a plan that will evolve into a law, “so that we actually have urban transport that will meet the needs of a modern big city and its citizens”.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us to be talking about requisitioning” he said, and added that in the next cabinet meeting the relevant bill will be discussed followed by a public consultation with all stakeholders and representatives of workers and then issued in Parliament.

Petalotis underlined that the government is securing the public nature of urban transport and the quality of services provided. He added that the government is committed to reversing the situation that used to exist in urban transport and that they are interested in “a consolidation in all public sectors, with the best services for the citizen at the lowest cost for the people and the public interest”.
